Anchen Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

As of its acquisition by Par Pharmaceutical in late 2011, Anchen was a profitable specialty pharmaceutical company with five commercialized products and a robust pipeline. It had filed 27 Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDAs) with the US FDA—five believed to be first-to-file—and about 26 additional products in development. The company focused on developing and commercializing extended-release and niche generic pharmaceuticals. It anticipated launching eight to ten new niche generics over the following two years.

Its portfolio included notable generics such as those for Wellbutrin XL and Cipro. The company operated state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Irvine, California.

In November 2011, Par Pharmaceutical Companies completed its $410 million cash acquisition of Anchen Pharmaceuticals.

After the acquisition by Par Pharmaceutical—which itself was later acquired by Endo International—Anchen ceased independent operations.
