Ernst & Whinney was a prominent international professional services firm and one of the 'Big Eight' accounting firms during the 20th century. The firm was established in 1979 through the merger of the American firm Ernst & Ernst and the British firm Whinney Murray. It provided a wide range of services including auditing, tax preparation, and management consulting to various sectors, including healthcare and life sciences. In 1989, Ernst & Whinney merged with Arthur Young & Co. to form Ernst & Young, which is now known globally as EY. The firm did not engage in drug discovery, biotechnology research, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
