Company intelligence / Profile preview
International Minerals & Chemical (IMC) was a prominent industrial conglomerate that transitioned from a focus on mining and fertilizers into a major player in the life sciences and healthcare sectors. The company's healthcare expansion was driven by the 1986 acquisition of Mallinckrodt, a leader in diagnostic imaging and pain management, and the acquisition of Pitman-Moore in the animal health space. In 1990, the company was renamed IMCERA Group to reflect its strategic shift toward human and animal health and specialty chemicals. The organization eventually underwent a series of demergers and restructurings, leading to the independence of Mallinckrodt as a pharmaceutical entity and the merger of the minerals business with Cargill's crop nutrition division to form The Mosaic Company in 2004.
