MModal is a healthcare technology company focused on clinical documentation, medical speech recognition, natural language understanding, computer-assisted physician documentation, and coding workflow software for healthcare providers. Historically, the company combined transcription services with AI-powered documentation tools used by hospitals, health systems, and clinicians. Its core products included the Fluency suite, such as Fluency Direct and related documentation improvement and coding solutions. MModal’s technology business was acquired by 3M in February 2019 for an enterprise value of $1 billion, and those assets later became part of Solventum following 3M’s April 1, 2024 health care spin-off. The M*Modal brand and product documentation remain in use within Solventum’s health information technology portfolio.
