N-Gene Research & Development was a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on the development of small molecule drugs for metabolic and neurodegenerative disorders. The company's lead candidate, BGP-15, is a pharmacological chaperone co-inducer of Heat shock protein 70 (HSP70). This mechanism was designed to improve insulin sensitivity in patients with type 2 diabetes and provide neuroprotective effects in conditions like Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. N-Gene conducted several Phase 2 clinical trials evaluating BGP-15's efficacy in metabolic syndrome and diabetes. Although the company showed promising early results, it is currently inactive and its programs have largely stalled or moved to academic research.
