Company intelligence / Profile preview
The Netherlands Vaccine Institute (NVI) was a state-owned organization in the Netherlands dedicated to the research, development, and production of vaccines. It played a critical role in the Dutch National Immunisation Programme, manufacturing essential vaccines such as DTP-Polio and Hib. The institute was globally recognized for its development of the Sabin-IPV (Inactivated Polio Vaccine) technology, which it licensed to various international manufacturers to support global polio eradication efforts. In 2012, the Dutch government privatized the NVI's production and development activities by selling them to the Serum Institute of India, which subsequently established Bilthoven Biologicals. The remaining public health and regulatory functions of the NVI were integrated into the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).
