Ortho Biotech Oncology Research & Development

Ortho Biotech Oncology Research & Development was a Johnson & Johnson oncology R&D organization focused on oncology, hematology, and supportive care. It was formed to unify oncology discovery and development efforts across Johnson & Johnson companies and later operated as a unit of Centocor Research & Development and, for certain assets, Cougar Biotechnology. The organization is best known for developing Zytiga (abiraterone acetate), which received FDA approval in 2011 for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer after docetaxel treatment. Historical disclosures also describe earlier-stage programs including Hdm2, histone deacetylase, and c-Met inhibitors, as well as adoptive T-cell approaches developed in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute. The entity appears to have been an internal business/divisional R&D organization rather than a standalone operating company and is no longer active as a current standalone brand.
