Saint Vincent's Catholic Medical Centers

Saint Vincent's Catholic Medical Centers (SVCMC) was a prominent non-profit healthcare system based in New York City, anchored by its flagship St. Vincent's Hospital in Greenwich Village. Established in 1849 by the Sisters of Charity, the system was a critical provider of emergency and specialized medical services, notably becoming a leader in HIV/AIDS treatment during the 1980s. At its peak, SVCMC operated multiple hospitals, nursing homes, and home health care services across New York's boroughs and Westchester. Due to significant financial debt and declining reimbursements, the organization filed for bankruptcy in 2010, resulting in the closure of its Manhattan flagship and the redistribution of its other facilities to various regional health systems.
