Company intelligence / Profile preview
San Diego Hospice & Palliative Care was a prominent non-profit healthcare organization based in San Diego, California, specializing in end-of-life care and palliative medicine. Founded in 1977, it was one of the oldest and largest hospice programs in the United States and was recognized globally for its Institute for Palliative Medicine, which served as a major teaching and research hub. The organization provided comprehensive clinical services, including pain management and psychosocial support, to thousands of patients annually. Following a federal audit regarding Medicare patient eligibility and billing practices, the organization faced significant financial distress and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in early 2013. It ultimately ceased operations and liquidated its assets later that year, with many of its programs and patients transitioning to other local healthcare systems.
