Sancilio & Co. was a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of lipid-based therapies using its proprietary Advanced Lipid Technologies (ALT) platform. The company specialized in creating formulations that improve the bioavailability and absorption of lipophilic compounds, particularly highly purified omega-3 fatty acids. Its lead candidate, Altemia (SC401), was developed for the treatment of sickle cell disease in pediatric patients and reached Phase 3 clinical trials. Despite its promising pipeline in rare diseases and metabolic disorders, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2018, leading to the sale of its assets and intellectual property.
