Schroder Wertheim & Co. was a prominent investment bank and brokerage firm that became a major force in healthcare and biotechnology financing during the late 20th century. The firm was created through a partnership between the British merchant bank Schroders and the American firm Wertheim & Co., combining international reach with deep Wall Street expertise. It was particularly noted for its influential equity research in the life sciences sector, which helped drive investor interest in early-stage biotech companies. Throughout the 1990s, the firm served as a lead underwriter and advisor for numerous high-profile pharmaceutical and medical device transactions. In 2000, the investment banking operations of Schroders, including Schroder Wertheim, were acquired by Citigroup for approximately $2.2 billion and integrated into Salomon Smith Barney.
