Overview

(+)-curcuphenol is a natural sesquiterpene phenol primarily isolated from marine sponges, such as *Myrmekioderma* sp. and *Didiscus aceratus*. It is recognized for its potent biological activities, including significant cytotoxicity and antiviral properties. In oncology research, (+)-curcuphenol has demonstrated the ability to inhibit the growth of various cancer cell lines, including A549 (lung cancer) and HeLa (cervical cancer), by inducing apoptosis. This pro-apoptotic effect has been characterized through annexin V and propidium iodide (PI) staining and supported by molecular docking studies. Furthermore, the compound exhibits antiviral activity against Dengue virus type 2 (DENV-2). While it serves as a promising lead compound for drug discovery, it is currently in the early stages of preclinical research.
