(−)-[18F]flubatine is a fluorine-18 labeled radiotracer and radioligand used for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. It is a high-affinity ligand for the α4β2 subtype of brain nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs). The compound enables visualization and quantification of these receptors in vivo, which is valuable for assessing cholinergic deficits in neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. Both enantiomers of flubatine bind specifically to α4β2 nAChRs; however, the (−) enantiomer demonstrates faster kinetics suitable for clinical PET imaging applications. The drug has been evaluated in early-phase clinical studies with no significant adverse effects observed in healthy volunteers[2][4].
