The combination (-)-vestitol + salviolone is an investigational mixture of two natural product-derived small molecules with purported neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory properties. (-)-Vestitol is a hydroxyisoflavan found in Glycyrrhiza uralensis and Brazilian red propolis, known for anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity through inhibition of neutrophil migration and downregulation of chemokines such as CXCL1/KC and CXCL2/MIP-2. Salviolone is a diterpenoid isolated from Salvia miltiorrhiza possessing reported modulatory effects on inflammation. Their combination has been shown in preclinical studies (specifically APP/PS1 transgenic mouse models of Alzheimer's disease) to synergistically ameliorate cognitive deficits and reduce amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaque burden, suggesting a potential mechanism by targeting neuroinflammation and pathogenic protein aggregation[1][3][5][6][7].
