(2E)-3-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-N-hydroxyacrylamide is a synthetic small molecule belonging to the class of cinnamic acid derivatives. It acts as a potent inhibitor of the light chain protease activity of Clostridium botulinum neurotoxin serotype A (BoNT/A-LC), which is responsible for the toxic effects of botulinum toxin. The compound functions by binding to and inhibiting the active site zinc metalloprotease domain of BoNT/A-LC, thereby blocking its ability to cleave neuronal SNARE proteins and preventing neurotoxic effects. This mechanism makes it a candidate for development as an antidote or therapeutic agent against botulism and potential bioterrorism threats involving botulinum toxin[5][6]. The compound has been studied in structural biology research but has not advanced into clinical trials or received regulatory approval[2][5].
