(2Z)-2-cyano-N-(2,2'-dichlorobiphenyl‑4‑yl)-3-hydroxybut‑2‑enamide is a synthetic small molecule inhibitor of dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH), the mitochondrial enzyme that catalyzes a key step in de novo pyrimidine biosynthesis. By inhibiting DHODH, this compound disrupts the production of orotate from dihydroorotate, thereby interfering with nucleotide synthesis and cell proliferation. It has been studied as an experimental tool compound for structure-based drug design and optimization targeting both human and Plasmodium falciparum DHODH[1][7]. There is no evidence it has reached clinical development or approval.
