Overview

(4s)-5-Fluoro-L-leucine is a synthetic fluorinated analog of the natural amino acid L-leucine. It is classified as an experimental small molecule and belongs to the class of l-alpha-amino acids. The compound features a fluorine atom substituted at the 5-position of the leucine side chain. Its primary use has been in biochemical and structural studies as a probe for protein structure and function due to its ability to be incorporated into proteins in place of leucine with minimal perturbation to protein backbone conformation. The presence of fluorinated groups allows for sensitive detection by ^19F NMR spectroscopy and can influence side-chain dynamics within proteins[1][3][10]. There are no approved therapeutic indications or clinical uses for this compound.
