(4S,5R)-3-(N-benzoyl)-2-paramethoxyphenyl-4-phenyl-oxazolidine-5-carboxylic acid is a small molecule chemical intermediate developed by XinKe for the semi-synthesis of the chemotherapy drug paclitaxel. This oxazolidine-protected derivative serves as the precursor for the essential phenylisoserine side chain of paclitaxel, which is required for its ability to bind to and stabilize microtubules. By providing a stereochemically pure building block, this intermediate facilitates the efficient production of taxane-based antineoplastic agents. While primarily used in manufacturing, it is associated with the development of treatments for various cancers, including breast, ovarian, and lung cancer, where paclitaxel is a standard of care.
