Overview

(E)-2-(3,4-dihydroxystyryl)-3-hydroxy-4H-pyran-4-one (D30) is a synthetic small molecule and a derivative of pyromeconic acid. It has demonstrated antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in preclinical studies. D30 inhibits amyloid-beta aggregation, reduces neuroinflammation by downregulating galectin-3 expression, promotes amyloid-beta clearance from the brain, protects synapses, and improves cognitive function in mouse models of Alzheimer's disease. Its mechanism is similar to that of resveratrol but with distinct molecular targets including galectin-3 modulation[1][3][6]. The compound is being investigated primarily for its potential as a neuroprotective agent in Alzheimer's disease.
