Overview

(E)-methyl 2-(7-chloroquinolin-4-ylthio)-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)acrylate, also known as QNACR, is a synthetic small molecule hybrid compound investigated for its dual antimalarial and antineoplastic properties. It combines a 7-chloroquinoline moiety, characteristic of the chloroquine class of antimalarials, with a hydroxyphenyl acrylate group. In the context of malaria, it acts as an inhibitor of β-hematin formation, preventing the detoxification of heme by Plasmodium parasites. In oncology research, particularly in prostate cancer models, the compound has demonstrated multi-target efficacy by reducing cell viability, inhibiting adhesion, migration, and invasion, and suppressing neoangiogenesis and Matrix Metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) activity. Preclinical studies in PC-3 xenograft mice showed significant tumor growth reduction.
