Overview

(Pro3)GIP is a synthetic analog of human gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP), also known as glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide. It features a proline substitution at position 3, which confers increased stability and specificity. This peptide acts as a full agonist at the human GIP receptor, stimulating cAMP production with efficacy similar to native GIP. Its primary mechanism is activation of the GIP receptor—a class B1 GPCR—leading to enhanced insulin secretion in response to glucose. The compound is used primarily in research settings for studying metabolic pathways related to diabetes and obesity[1][4][5]. There are no approved therapeutic indications or brand names associated with this molecule.
