(S)-AMPA

(S)-AMPA is the active enantiomer of AMPA, a synthetic non-proteinogenic alpha-amino acid and potent, selective agonist for the AMPA subtype of ionotropic glutamate receptors. It mimics the action of glutamate at these receptors, inducing fast excitatory postsynaptic potentials by activating non-selective cation channels permeable to sodium and potassium ions. This compound is widely used as an experimental tool in neuroscience research to study synaptic transmission and receptor pharmacology. The R-enantiomer is virtually inactive at these sites. Its primary use is in laboratory research; it has no approved therapeutic indications[1][4][6][8].
