Overview

(S)-blebbistatin is the active S-enantiomer of blebbistatin, a small molecule inhibitor that selectively and reversibly inhibits the ATPase activity of non-muscle myosin II. It binds within the apex of the myosin cleft, stabilizing myosin in an actin-detached state and thereby blocking actomyosin contractility. This compound is widely used as a research tool to study cell motility, cytokinesis, muscle contraction, and related processes dependent on non-muscle myosin II. It does not significantly inhibit smooth muscle myosin II or other classes such as I, V, or X. The drug is highly light-sensitive; exposure to blue light can photoinactivate its inhibitory effect[1][3][4][9].
