Overview

(S)-carazolol is the S-enantiomer of carazolol, a high-affinity, non-selective beta-blocker that acts as an inverse agonist at β-adrenergic receptors. It belongs to the carbazole class of organic compounds and is primarily used in research settings to study cardiovascular function and beta-adrenoceptor pharmacology. Its mechanism involves binding to β-adrenoceptors, thereby inhibiting the effects of endogenous catecholamines such as epinephrine and norepinephrine. This results in decreased heart rate and blood pressure. The compound has been widely utilized in preclinical studies for its potent activity at beta receptors but is not approved for clinical use[1][4][5][6].
