(S)-famoxadone is the S-enantiomer of famoxadone, a synthetic fungicide belonging to the oxazolidinedione class and structurally classified as a diphenylether. It acts by inhibiting the mitochondrial respiratory chain at Complex III in fungi, thereby blocking electron transport between cytochrome b and cytochrome c1. This inhibition disrupts oxidative phosphorylation and ATP production, leading to energy depletion and cell death in sensitive fungal pathogens. Famoxadone is used primarily for crop protection against a broad spectrum of plant pathogenic fungi affecting vegetables such as tomatoes, potatoes, cucurbits, lettuce, grapes, wheat, and barley[1][2][7]. The S-enantiomer refers specifically to one optical isomer; commercial famoxadone is typically used as a racemic mixture.
