Overview

[11C](-)-RWAY is a radioligand labeled with Carbon-11, specifically developed for use in Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging. It functions primarily as an antagonist of the brain's 5-HT(1A) serotonin receptors, although its (S)-enantiomer acts as a weak partial agonist. This radiopharmaceutical serves as a research tool to visualize and quantify 5-HT(1A) receptor distribution and availability in vivo. It aids in the study of neurological and psychiatric conditions, such as anxiety and depression, where these receptors are considered therapeutic targets. The compound was developed as an improved alternative to existing 5-HT(1A) receptor radioligands, addressing drawbacks like rapid metabolism and non-specific binding.
