Drug intelligence / Profile preview
[11C]3-iodoallyl-2-(3-iodobenzyl)guanidine (also referred to as [11C]mIBG-iodopropene) is a carbon-11 radiolabeled asymmetric guanidine analog of meta-iodobenzylguanidine (mIBG) developed by researchers at the University of Michigan. It is designed as a positron emission tomography (PET) imaging tracer to target the norepinephrine transporter (NET) and vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) for the diagnosis and evaluation of neuroendocrine tumors, such as neuroblastoma, pheochromocytoma, and paraganglioma. By incorporating a carbon-11 radiolabel on the guanidine moiety and an iodine-bearing allyl side chain, this tracer serves as a preclinical prototype to evaluate the uptake and retention kinetics of novel mIBG analogs, which may subsequently be labeled with therapeutic radionuclides like iodine-131 or astatine-211 for theranostic applications.
