Overview

[11C]ADAM is a carbon-11 labeled radiopharmaceutical used as a positron emission tomography (PET) tracer to image the serotonin transporter (SERT) in the brain. Developed by researchers at the Institut National de la Sante Et De La Recherche Medicale (INSERM), it belongs to the diphenyl sulfide class of compounds. [11C]ADAM binds with high affinity and selectivity to SERT, which is responsible for the reuptake of serotonin from the synaptic cleft. By quantifying SERT density, [11C]ADAM serves as a valuable tool in clinical research for investigating the pathophysiology of various neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders, including major depressive disorder, Parkinson's disease, and anxiety disorders, as well as for monitoring the occupancy of SERT by therapeutic drugs like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).
