[11C]Cimbi-36 is a selective serotonin 2A (5-HT2A) receptor agonist radioligand developed for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. It was initially developed by the University of Copenhagen and has reached Phase 1 in clinical development. It was the first successful 5-HT2A receptor agonist PET radioligand suitable for examination of 5-HT2A receptors in cortical regions and 5-HT2C receptors in the choroid plexus. The compound binds to the G protein-coupled state of the receptors, potentially providing a more meaningful assessment of available receptors than antagonist radioligands. [11C]Cimbi-36 has demonstrated sensitivity to synaptic serotonin release in the human brain, making it valuable for evaluating the serotonin system in neuropsychiatric disorders.
