[11C]DASB is a highly selective radioligand developed for in vivo imaging of the serotonin transporter (SERT) using positron emission tomography (PET). It binds specifically to SERT sites in the brain, with high uptake in the midbrain and thalamus, intermediate levels in striatum, and modest to low levels in the neocortex and cerebellum. [11C]DASB has been successfully used to measure drug occupancy of SERT in vivo and has potential for monitoring changes in serotonin levels. It has suitable characteristics for evaluating the status of SERT in clinical settings and can detect SERT occupancy by selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as paroxetine and citalopram.
