[11C]MeS-IMPY is a radiolabeled small molecule used as a positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent. It is chemically described as N,N-dimethyl-4-(6-(methylthio)imidazo[1,2-a]pyridin-2-yl)benzenamine with the methyl group labeled with carbon-11 ([11C]). The compound binds to beta amyloid plaques in the brain and is primarily developed for imaging amyloid deposition in Alzheimer's disease. Its mechanism of action involves selective binding to aggregated beta amyloid protein deposits, allowing visualization and quantification of amyloid burden via PET scans. The drug is synthesized by radiolabeling its precursor using [11C]-iodomethane produced from a cyclotron and formulated for intravenous injection as a sterile solution containing saline, polysorbate 80, and ethanol[1][2][3].
