Drug intelligence / Profile preview
[11C]MK-3168 is a carbon-11 labeled radiopharmaceutical developed as a positron emission tomography (PET) tracer for imaging fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH) in the brain. FAAH is the primary enzyme responsible for the metabolic degradation of the endocannabinoid anandamide. By binding to FAAH, [11C]MK-3168 allows for the in vivo quantification of enzyme availability and distribution. This tracer is primarily used in clinical research to investigate alterations in the endocannabinoid system across various psychiatric conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), alcohol use disorder, and psychosis. The tracer was originally developed by Merck and has been utilized in studies led by Yale University.
