Overview

[11C]MPC6827 is a radiolabeled, brain-permeable positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent designed to quantify microtubule (MT) dynamics in vivo. It is the carbon-11 labeled form of MPC6827 (also known as verubulin), a small-molecule inhibitor that binds with high affinity and selectivity to β-tubulin sites on microtubules, destabilizing them. The compound has been developed for non-invasive imaging of MTs in the central nervous system, particularly for research into neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Preclinical studies demonstrate that it crosses the blood-brain barrier efficiently and shows high specificity for destabilized microtubules, making it suitable for quantifying MT loss or dysfunction associated with neurodegeneration or other CNS pathologies. The drug is currently experimental and not FDA approved; its primary use is as an investigational PET tracer in clinical research settings[1][2][3][4][5][6][7].
