Drug intelligence / Profile preview
[11C]NES (also known as [11C]GW457427) is a carbon-11 labeled small-molecule radiopharmaceutical that acts as a selective positron emission tomography (PET) imaging tracer for neutrophil elastase (NE). Originally derived from the small-molecule neutrophil elastase inhibitor GW457427 developed by GlaxoSmithKline, the radiotracer was developed and validated for clinical use by researchers at Uppsala University. [11C]NES is designed to non-invasively image and quantify neutrophil-mediated inflammation in vivo. It has been evaluated in clinical and preclinical studies for various inflammatory and oncology indications, including COVID-19-associated lung injury, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), rheumatoid arthritis, Type 1 diabetes, interstitial lung disease, and lung cancer.
