Overview

[11C]OMAR is a radiolabeled small molecule positron emission tomography (PET) tracer developed for in vivo imaging and quantification of the cannabinoid type 1 receptor (CB1R) in the human brain. It acts as an antagonist/inverse agonist at CB1R, making it suitable for mapping receptor distribution and density, particularly in neuropsychiatric disorders and substance use research. The compound was originally developed at Johns Hopkins University and has been used to study conditions such as schizophrenia, opioid-related disorders, cannabis withdrawal, alcoholism, obesity, psychological stress, and drug dependence. Its high specificity and reproducibility make it a valuable tool for clinical research on the endocannabinoid system[1][2][3][4][5][10].
