[177Lu]Lu-PSMA-XT is a radioligand therapy designed to target and treat prostate cancer, specifically metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) expressing prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA). It consists of the radioactive isotope lutetium-177 ([177Lu]) chelated to a PSMA-targeting ligand ("PSMA-XT"), which binds selectively to PSMA proteins overexpressed on the surface of prostate cancer cells. Once bound, the beta-particle radiation emitted from [177Lu] damages the DNA of these cancer cells, leading to cell death while sparing most normal tissues. The drug is administered by intravenous injection and is studied for its ability to deliver targeted radiation therapy to PSMA-positive cancer cells in metastatic prostate cancer[3][5].
