[18F]6b is an experimental radiopharmaceutical developed as a positron emission tomography (PET) tracer for the in vivo imaging of alpha-synuclein (α-syn) aggregates. Alpha-synuclein misfolding and aggregation are hallmark features of synucleinopathies, including Parkinson's disease (PD), dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), and multiple system atrophy (MSA). The tracer is a phenothiazine derivative designed to cross the blood-brain barrier and bind with high affinity and selectivity to α-synuclein fibrils over other protein aggregates such as amyloid-beta or tau. By enabling the visualization and quantification of α-synuclein pathology in the living brain, [18F]6b aims to facilitate early diagnosis, monitor disease progression, and serve as a biomarker for evaluating the efficacy of alpha-synuclein-targeting therapies in clinical trials.
