[18F]ACI-3847 is a next-generation positron emission tomography (PET) radiopharmaceutical developed by AC Immune for the imaging of alpha-synuclein (α-syn) aggregates in the brain. Alpha-synuclein misfolding and accumulation are the primary pathological hallmarks of synucleinopathies, including Parkinson's disease, Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), and Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB). This small molecule tracer is engineered to exhibit high affinity and superior selectivity for α-syn fibrils compared to other protein aggregates such as amyloid-beta and tau. By enabling the non-invasive visualization and quantification of α-syn pathology, [18F]ACI-3847 is intended to serve as a vital diagnostic tool for early disease detection, accurate differential diagnosis, and as a longitudinal biomarker to monitor disease progression and the efficacy of disease-modifying therapies in clinical trials.
