Overview

[18F]AlF-PSMA-N5 is a novel radiopharmaceutical PET imaging agent developed for the detection and staging of prostate cancer. It consists of the PSMA-N5 ligand, which targets the Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA), labeled with the radioisotope fluorine-18 using an aluminum fluoride ([18F]AlF) complexation method. This labeling strategy allows for a one-step aqueous synthesis, combining the favorable physical properties of fluorine-18, such as its high resolution and relatively long half-life, with the ease of radiolabeling typically associated with radiometals like gallium-68. The agent is primarily being evaluated for its diagnostic efficacy in identifying primary prostate cancer, recurrence, and metastasis, often in head-to-head comparisons with established tracers like [18F]F-DCFPyL, [68Ga]Ga-PSMA-11, and [18F]F-PSMA-1007.
