Overview

[18F]DASA-23 is a fluorine-18 labeled radiopharmaceutical developed as a positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent for the non-invasive measurement of pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2) expression. PKM2 catalyzes the final step in glycolysis and is preferentially expressed in glioblastoma (GBM) and other cancer cells, with minimal expression in healthy brain tissue. This makes PKM2 an important biomarker for tumor metabolic reprogramming. [18F]DASA-23 enables visualization of aberrantly expressed PKM2, allowing detection and monitoring of tumor glycolytic activity, particularly in GBM. The tracer crosses the blood-brain barrier, accumulates in tumors with high PKM2 expression, and is rapidly cleared from normal brain tissue. It has been evaluated preclinically and clinically for its ability to delineate tumors from healthy tissue using PET imaging[1][6][8].
