[18F]F-DED

[18F]F-DED is a radiopharmaceutical positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent. It is a deuterated derivative of deprenyl labeled with fluorine-18 and was specifically designed to target monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B), an enzyme that is upregulated in reactive astrocytes during neuroinflammation. By binding preferentially to areas with increased MAO-B activity, [18F]F-DED enables non-invasive visualization and quantification of reactive astrogliosis—a hallmark of neuroinflammatory processes—in the brain. This tracer has shown promise for assessing neuroinflammation in Alzheimer's disease and other neurological disorders, providing insights into disease progression and the role of astrocyte activation in neurodegeneration[3][4][1].
