Overview

[18F]F-PSMA is a radiopharmaceutical PET tracer developed by RadioMedic for the imaging of primary and recurrent prostate cancer. It consists of a small-molecule ligand that targets the prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), labeled with the positron-emitting radioisotope fluorine-18 ([18F]). PSMA is a cell-surface protein that is highly overexpressed in prostate cancer cells compared to normal tissues, making it an ideal target for molecular imaging. Upon intravenous administration, the tracer binds to PSMA-expressing cells, allowing for the detection of primary tumors, lymph node metastases, and distant metastases with high sensitivity and specificity. This tracer is particularly valuable for the localization of recurrence in patients with rising PSA levels after initial treatment, where conventional imaging often fails to identify the site of disease.
