Drug intelligence / Profile preview
[18F]FHB (also known as [18F]FBHB or CER-022) is an 18F-labeled radiolabeled ketone body analogue of beta-hydroxybutyric acid (specifically, (3S)-4-fluoro-3-hydroxybutyric acid). It is being developed as a diagnostic positron emission tomography (PET) neuroimaging tracer to quantify regional ketone body metabolism in the brain. Developed originally at the University of Alberta and licensed to Cerecin, [18F]FHB is designed to detect and monitor metabolic disturbances and bioenergetic deficits associated with neurodegenerative and neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, migraine, and infantile spasms. The tracer enters cells via monocarboxylate transporters (MCTs) and serves as a metabolic probe analogous to [18F]FDG, which measures glucose metabolism.
