[18F]fluortriopride is a novel radiopharmaceutical used as a positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent with high selectivity for the dopamine D3 receptor. It is designed to enable in vivo visualization and quantification of D3 receptors, which are implicated in neuropsychiatric disorders such as Parkinson's disease, dystonia, schizophrenia, and substance abuse. The compound demonstrates approximately 160-fold selectivity for the D3 receptor over the D2 receptor. Its primary use is as a research tool to study brain dopaminergic function and related pathologies using PET/CT imaging[8][1][2]. The drug was initially developed by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania.
