Overview

[18F]FP-TZTP is a subtype-selective muscarinic cholinergic radioligand with M2 selectivity, developed for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. It has potential applications in studying Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative conditions. The tracer shows rapid uptake in the brain with distribution consistent with M2 cholinergic receptors, being similar in cortical regions, basal ganglia, and thalamus, but significantly lower in the cerebellum. Studies have demonstrated that [18F]FP-TZTP binding can be blocked by unlabeled FP-TZTP, indicating specific binding to muscarinic receptors. The tracer is also sensitive to changes in brain acetylcholine levels, as demonstrated in studies using physostigmine, an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor.
