[18F]MNI-792 is a fluorine-18 labeled positron emission tomography (PET) radiotracer developed for imaging cholesterol 24-hydroxylase (CH24H, also known as CYP46A1) in the human brain. CH24H is an enzyme involved in cholesterol metabolism, converting cholesterol to 24S-hydroxycholesterol, which can cross the blood-brain barrier and be eliminated from the brain. [18F]MNI-792 enables noninvasive quantification of CH24H levels and distribution in vivo, supporting research into neurological diseases where altered cholesterol metabolism may play a role. The tracer has been evaluated in Phase 1 clinical studies for its safety, biodistribution, radiation dosimetry, test-retest reproducibility, and kinetic modeling properties using PET imaging in healthy volunteers. It has also been used to assess target occupancy of investigational drugs such as soticlestat (TAK-935), a CH24H inhibitor[1][2][9].
