Overview

[18F]OP-801 is a hydroxyl dendrimer (HD) PET imaging agent labeled with fluorine‑18, designed to cross the blood-brain barrier and selectively target activated microglia and macrophages in regions of neuroinflammation. It enables visualization of neuroinflammatory processes with high specificity and sensitivity, making it a promising biomarker for diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), and Parkinson’s disease. The agent has demonstrated robust uptake in animal models of neurodegeneration, correlating with markers of activated microglia/macrophages. Clinical studies are ongoing to evaluate its safety, biodistribution, pharmacokinetics, and ability to detect neuroinflammation in humans[1][2][3][4][5][6][8][9].
