Drug intelligence / Profile preview
[18F]PLX5622 is a fluorine-18 labeled small molecule radiotracer developed by researchers at the University of Michigan for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of the colony-stimulating factor 1 receptor (CSF1R). CSF1R is a tyrosine kinase receptor exclusively expressed on microglia in the brain and is robustly upregulated in neuroinflammatory conditions, such as Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Derived from the highly selective, brain-penetrant CSF1R inhibitor PLX5622 (originally developed by Plexxikon), [18F]PLX5622 is synthesized via copper-mediated radiofluorination of a boronate precursor. It is designed to provide a next-generation PET imaging tool with high specific binding, enabling the non-invasive monitoring and quantification of microglial-specific neuroinflammation in vivo.
