Overview

[18F]TARP-v8 is a novel positron emission tomography (PET) radiotracer developed by The First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University for the visualization and quantification of transmembrane AMPA receptor regulatory protein gamma-8 (TARP-γ8) in the human brain. TARP-γ8 is a specific auxiliary subunit that modulates the trafficking, surface expression, and biophysical properties of α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA) receptors, with high expression levels found in the hippocampus. The tracer is currently being utilized in clinical research (e.g., ChiCTR2600123144) to investigate glutamatergic system abnormalities in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). By mapping TARP-γ8 distribution, researchers aim to identify biomarkers for MDD and understand the relationship between AMPA receptor regulation and clinical depressive symptoms.
