[18F]UCB-H is a fluorine-18 labeled radiopharmaceutical designed for Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging. It functions as a radioligand that specifically targets the synaptic vesicle glycoprotein 2A (SV2A) protein, a marker of synaptic density. This tracer is utilized to detect and quantify synapse loss in vivo, which is an early feature and predictor of progression in various neurological and neurodegenerative disorders, including multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, and epilepsy. Its development aims to provide a non-invasive tool for monitoring disease progression and assessing treatment efficacy by visualizing synaptic alterations in the brain. It is derived from the anti-epileptic drug levetiracetam.
